Started clearing out the other side of the pathway bed. It's all bermuda grass! So, I did something I very RARELY do- I sprayed the whole area with Round-Up. Yep- I used a chemical in my yard for the first time in 3 years. I knew that no matter how hard I tried I would never get rid of those roots.
I went on a hunt for hardware cloth earlier- Wallyworld didn't have any, the little local hardware store was out, and the other local hardware place was closed because they are on vacation. Maybe later I'll drive down to Lowes and get some there- I need it to screen out the gravel in the new beds. So right now I'm not able to do anything for the beds because I have to wait for the round-up to kill the grass and I can't remove the rocks in the already cleared spot. *Sigh*
Maybe I'll go take a nap :)
Well, I better go. Gotta water my new tree :)

I see what you mean about the concrete and bermuda grass-LOL-BTW, I've used Round-up on bermuda grass, and it kills it nicely......then a few weeks later the grass beside the place you sprayed will send out runners and overtake it again, at least that's what happened in mine. |

I fight this nasty grass all the time and just learned this year that those awful roots can go down 6 feet. So expect it to rear its ugly head again and again. I don't think there is any way to completely eradicate this pest. Just control it the best way you can. I met a lady that PAID someone to come out, dig out her side yard (not to big) and bring in new soil then lay sod. It was back before the summer was over. Sorry to burst your bubble but you are doing just what you need to in order to keep it under control. Linda B |
