Fall is really a great time of year. Things slow down. Calm is in the air. Leaves litter the yard and butterflies drink from the flowers that like the cooler weather. Its nice to see new life too, on the plants and flowers that like lower temperatures.

The cabbage and broccoli are growing good. Aside from the caterpillars that are munching holes here and there. About half of the greens that were planted are doing great. The other half didn't germinate. I think I tried to start them too soon when the heat wouldn't allow some to germinate. The onions are doing good, need to plant some more.

Need to plant the peas....and more greens.
I heard a rustling in amongst the asparagus ferns the other day when I was out to get the eggs. Some of the ferns had laid over and the grass has grown up a little in that area. I looked and looked (without actually digging into the foliage with my hands) but couldn't see anything in there. Now I am concerned it may be a snake. So today I started cutting down the asparagus.....got one bed completely cut down. All of the beds of asparagus are at least 75 to 85% dried, only a few completely green stalks. I am going to fertilize and add some more soil, compost and the like. Can't wait until spring for a taste of our own asparagus!!!!
Anyone have an opinion on using some well decomposed goat manure???? Have someone that is going to give us some.
More garden work MUST be done!!!!!!! Less cooking....more gardening!!!!!!
Now I must go make a cake :), red velvet, mmmmmmmm.
