I have never planted flowers or anything before but I have recently moved into an apartment with a balcony and I have always wanted to plant lavender and roses. Last week I got some lavender seeds in two pots that I filled with soil. I hope they grow ok, I was told it takes about 4-6 weeks. I have been watering them almost everyday but trying not to drown them. I heard roses are not the best to plant on balconies in pots so I might rethink the roses and plan something else.

Once the plants sprout, you probably don't need to water your plants everyday, unless it is very arid and dry where you have them. An easy way to tell is to stick your finger in the soil, enough to bury it up to the top of your fingernail and see if any (moist) dirt clings to your finger. If there is moisture, the plants are ok. If you water too much you run the risk of them getting some sort of fungus or rot. I tend to water my plants once a week, though I do a thorough watering.
