How successful have you been growing hollyhocks from seed? I planted the seeds according to package directions. It says to keep them in a shady location until fall and then plant them in full sun. They sprouted several weeks ago but have shown no growth since. I don't expect them to flower until the second year, but I did expect steady growth.

Ya then they have such beautiful flowers and bettles eat all of your leaves.

I've been growing them from seed and they're sitting out in full sun pretty much since they got their 2nd or 3rd "real" leaves. I have considered moving them into part shade during the high temps and drought, but so far they seem to be doing quite well and are about 10 inches high now.

WOW...That must be a bummer moby...Never had that happen here...do have to watch though for rust on the leaf..you want to water from the grown and not allow the dirt to splash up...

Wow...love that colour Vegemm! If you're harvesting the seeds later and have some spare, I'll trade you some - I have some yellow with pink throats, dark purple/black and deep maroon pink hollyhock seeds. Actually i think I have other colours too, but can't remember off the top of my head. Maybe I need to start an inventory of my seeds on the computer. Hmmmmm...
