Yeah, the only thing that was missing was a nice dense scoop of French Vanilla ice cream! Just plop it in the seed cavity and go! |

Abhoth, you may have started a new market for single serve cantalopes!!! i'm single and i'd love to go to the store and pick up a couple of those little guys! i hate when i have to cut into one of those huge ones they sell and then hurry to eat it all before it goes bad. buying a cantalope is like making a commitment! |

congrats on the canteloupe! I got my first ones this year too. The groundhog didn't get them this time!! They've been tasting pretty good too. |

Mostly we grow Kandy Corn & Yukon Gold potatoes, with your odd tomato thrown in there... well, and then there's that monster grape vine. But, decided to give cantaloupes a try this year ... one of those grow what you like things. Well, the quail got 50% of the plants when they were just seedlings. Maybe I'll have quail for dinner some evening! ;-) But they are good comic relief in the 'hood here... The plants that were left managed to grow from their tatered state, lo and behold cantaloupes started to appear! They are not large by any means but they're there! Went out this evening to check them, Tammy(the beautiful wife) says "Hey, this one is turning that golden under-color! Cool, I take a closer look and it's coming off the vine ... along with another one across the way! Two cants' ready, wow.... So, after dinner it was like hey!... let's slice into that small one for dessert and see what we've got! I grab a steak knife, Tam tries to hand me a larger knife ... come on... (she's fearful that it's a hard little rock of a cant') ... nah! It cut like butter and fell open, for us to see this bright orange juicy cantaloupe.... and OH MY FREAKIN' GOD! Thank "him" by the by... just licked the juice and it was heaven. Sweet and full of flavor... after the eating was done all we could say was wow. Wow... just wow. As I type this I'm thinking WoW! Here's a shot of the larger of the two (the beer can is there for size comparision only, I did not grow it... and if I had I would certainly share that little secret with everyone here)... it's a small victory, a victory none the less though!
