I've tried to snap off all the leaves that look to be infected and disposed of them in a plastic bag but the problem is half my bush is infected and some of the leaves are hard to get to. Are there any home remedies? or anything that I can get at my local wal-mart that I can spray on it to help.

It is too late to do much this year except to use a good fungicide purchased at a garden center. There are plenty of them out there. Dusting with powdered garden sulphur is one and is effective.

The key for next year is to start with a fungicide and do so at a regular, almost weekly basis. Don't let black spot get started and if it does, get at it right away. However, prevention is a key.

Be sure to clean up ALL rose debris this fall and destroy it.

Apply water to the ground rather than the leaves.

Again, next year you need to start early in the growing season on a preventive program using clean-up and a fungicide.

I just looked at the photos. The black spot isn't too bad yet, I've seen a lot worse.

How much sun does the rose get? Roses need at LEAST 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

It also appears there may be a problem with air circulation with the rose on the trellis Poor air circulation fosters many diseases such as black spot and powdery mildew.

someone on here told me that putting cornmeal on the soil around the base of the plant will help ..can not remember who it was...but did try this year and had no trouble with black spot.....powdery mildew or the rust...also was very careful to only water at the base without splashing the soil up..

HI: If I could add something to the advice given here it would be to emphasize the fact of clean up all the infected leaves (do not leave them in the garden over the winter months.) Start out with a good sulphur & horticultural oil mix ,spray everyting including the soil in your rose garden . Be sure to out your roses on a 7-14 day spray cycle for the rest of the growing season. What ever youdecide to use for a fungicide ,you will need to have more than 1 brand & alternate the fungicides every third or fourth spray cycle.
Fear not ,your roses will come back in the spring.
