If your black flies bite we have those too but not as bad as the gnats.

Yes black flies take a little chunk out of you. We get them early in spring before mosquitos. All you have to do is break the soil, cut the lawn and they are there. Their preferred spot to bite is under the hairline and behind the ears. Once the heat comes they disappear and the mosquito takes over.

I heard leaving a bowl of apple cider vinegar out. The flies are attracted to them. But this is used as a remedy for indoors. I do no know how well it would
work outdoors.

Thank goodness we don't get them this far north. Gnats is an expression I have heard are they like sand fleas or are they what the natives call No-see-ums? We get No-see-ums but only once in a while. I would appreciate a description of them just out of interest in something we don't get. So describe them then ask me about black flies.

I have knats all over in my yard. You walk through the grass and you see knats kicking up all over. You look next to bushes and trees and see swarms of them around them. This in turn leads to tons of spiders all over the house. Does anyone know of any way, with some kind of organic mix, to get rid of knats all through out the yard? I would love to try it with some organic mix, since I have two little kids that love to play outdoors in the yard. I have heard of people using vinegar, but am unsure if this will work. Anyone got any advice?

I live in the gnat capital of the world. We spell it gnat down south. Savannah which is 50 miles away even has a baseball team named the Sand Gnats. Some days it is impossible to work in the yard they are so bad. Down here we use Avon's Skin so Soft and that helps some. Just rub it on your face, legs and arms. When I really want to work in the yard and they are bad I wear a pair of safety glasses the ones with the sides to keep them out of my eyes. My neighbors think I am crazy. Ours don't bite they just annoy the heck out of you.

Try some insecticidal soap.

This is certainly something I would really like to know about myself. I've been told that if you water your lawn at night, that increases the knat population. It's tough because the most convenient time to water my lawn is at night. In any case, I have them too and would like to know how to get rid of them. Does the vinegar kill them or just attract them?
