Just got me one this year. The greenhouse where I worked was tossing it due to frost burn or something.Who knows what they did to it before I was hired.I brought it home and just kept it watered.
It is gorgeous - I love it .I'd have to say it is my favorite shrub. Just beautiful.
I have the Nandina domestica- full sized

We certainly enjoy ours. I use the abundance of red winter berries for my Christmas greenery business. Don't particularly like the dwarf species as a landscape plant..... but thats mainly my own aestheic prefrences. I do find the red leaves of winter of the dwarf to be useful in centerpieces and such.... but usually i obtain these at the dump.

What do you think of heavenly bamboo (Nandina)? I've been searching for some shrubs for a mixed border and really like the lacy look of this plant. From what I read, it also has great 4 season interest. Of course, I'm not going to take THEIR word for it!!! I only trust the experts at GG .

Thanks for the info. Now I'm wondering about pruning as I've seen some whacked into hedges! Do they have a nice graceful shape when you only prune back the old canes?

Even though you asked months ago, I just now ran across this thread. Nandina is my favorite landscape shrub. The foliage is attractive all year round. There are clusters of small white flowers in early summer and bright red berries that last through the winter until spring - along with foliage that turns bronze to red. The foliage is attractive year round. Pests don't seem to bother this shrub, and it needs little care other than water.

I cut a few branches of berries last fall and stuck them in a dry vase. They still look good. I like to cut sprigs of new growth to press for greeting cards and plaques.

I dug a couple of small new shoots one year and planted them. Today I reset one (18" tall now) along a block wall in our front yard. I will reset the other one along that wall in a day or 2. My shrubs have grown to 4 - 5' tall. I live in north central New Mexico and grow nandina in zone 7.
