As I was looking at the posts, I saw the pic of the BEAUTIFUL wave petunia on the patio and, well I am too embarrassed to even take a pic of mine! I think that I will cut it back and see what happens. It is in sun, well some shade, and it gets plenty of water. I think I might also try to repot it in a bigger po. It is in a large "bowl" pot and maybe the roots are cramped? If not, then I need to start looking for another plant for that spot. Thanks for all the replies!

I see lots of places with hanging pots of this coloured petunias and they are so full and very very long...gorgeous in other words. I think fertilizing with Miracle Grow helps them too |

Well, okay, maybe not. Not sure why that didn't show; maybe because I just uploaded the pic. I'll try again: Attachments: ![]() |

I believe mine is a Purple Wave. I haven't had a problem w/ leggy-ness, but I do do some deadheading. I spend much less time on it than I do w/ my regular petunia, though. Here's a pic.

In my front yard I have a jacaranda tree with a bed of red geraniums surrounding it. There is a redwood tree stump I put in there and I have tried planting a regular petunia only to have it get too leggy and die. I started seeing the commercials for the WAVE Petunia, it said that it keeps growing and growing with lots of blooms. Well, now I have a pot of leggy sticks? I think I planted 3 3" purple WAVE Petunias in there, they looked great against the red geraniums. Maybe I should try a bigger pot? I want to have something in the pot that is low maintenience since it is in the middle of the geraniums. Thank you for any and all advice... |

I don't have a digital camera (yet, daughter lost the one I had), but I love the WAVE petunias. Mine spread like wildfire and are georgous. Try deadheading and make sure their roots have room. Mine are in full or near full sun... I'm wondering since they are with gernaiums, that it's shade or partial sun? Maybe they need more sun? Good luck with them!! GW |

Next year , put some cherry million bells in with the terra cotta - talk about gorgeous - big drool bucket needed. At the greenhouse where I worked this year , the mixed baskets of terra cotta and cherry sold first.Couldn't keep them in.They planted 5 plants per 12 inch pot but honestly I don't think it would take that many. Have to say they did look nice and full.I didn't get one so I don't know if the number of plants was too many. That purple really holds a pretty dome shape - nice and neat and colorful.I have one on my porch steps they were pitching because it had been left dry and looked pitiful. Not anymore. It perked up beautifully in a week's time. P.S. EDIT to say yes they do great with the high heat and humidity.Even when it was up in the 100's. |

The other good thing about them is when they do get droopy from being dry , they perk back up by the next day. I have heard they have a double blooming wave petunia now although it hasn't made it to Kentucky yet.I am looking forward to seeing them. I think the doubles are so gorgeous. Personally, I think the purple million bells or any of the million bells/Calibrachoa do much better for the season. They do self clean. The blooms may be smaller but they show nicely. The purple keeps a bit more inbounds than the others- especially the terra cotta, it goes nuts! My Waves tend to be in a windy area, so self clean quite nicely. I love the terra cotta Calibrachoa, it's my favourite variety. I think the Million Bells do better in heat than the Waves too. |
