Otherwise when insect loving son comes for a visit , send him on a mission.. I had to can the veggy garden the last 2 yrs. We had a small barn put up and now no where to put one... I thought of raised ones. But Hubby and I wouldn't eat that much. So we grace the small local farm stands....

I'm thinking they arecalled a writing spider, which would be a common name and maybe only used around here.... mainly because the 'pad' looks like hand writing. We have a nice population of them around our house. Almost every year one will build a web near the back door. we always enjoy watching them and playing with them. With a blade of grass you can lightly touch the web somewhere and jiggle and she will think it is an insect caught in the web and go for it. She's sharp tho, will only fall for that trick once. You can also make like you are going threaten her (move your hand towards her as if you are going to pick her up and she will start pumping her web back and forth trying to bluff you into backing off. Usually hidden somewhere around the edge of the web you might find one or several egg sacks which hold next year's brood. |

Don't think we get him/her up here in my neck of the woods. I just love seeing him/her. Never heard of a spider that did that with the web. Thanks that is so interesting. |
