I have a spider that my daughter potted up at school last year. The teacher used "babies" from her own spider at home so the kids could make mother's day presents fo their moms. (very sweet on the teachers part) anyway, mine got big and did well. I moved it to a bigger container and started seeing the same problem. I only water once a week, and I save water from my Betta fish's bowl. I strain it thru the net first, but boy oh boy, its loves the fishy fertilizer!I get little white flowers and lots of shoots. Maybe you need some plant food every so often. Watering washes out the nutrients from the dirt. Just a thought!

I feed my plants spring to fall about every two weeks. Don't feed them in winter. Also spider pants like to be potbound. |

Racegirl, that could very well be the problem, as I've never used a fertilizer on any of my houseplants, they seem to have never needed a "perking up" I noticed as I was putting new soil in it that it'd divided into 3, and only 1 was "infected" so I pulled it apart and threw that out. I'll maybe pick up some plant food and give it a healthy dose. Thanx!!! |

I've never had problems with my spider plants but since we moved 1 of them the leaves are turning brown not on the tips but on the outsides starting about 1/2 way and then making it's way to the tops and bottoms. It's in a bedroom with an E. facing window, it's nice and bright. I'm going to try putting all new soil in there, but I cut off all the legs and rooted a handfull of baby's and most of them have it now too, could it be the water??? My other 2 spiders both have an number of ends that are brown tipped, too but not this other problem. I know the brown tipping is for sure the water. I really want a rain barrel, or 2. |
