I did a terrarium in the 70's...but it was in a large deco jar...the books I read said because of the humidity it creates...the plant leaves should not touch the sides. I did those little houseplants..like ferns, palms and so on. Would it be possible to have a piece of clear plastic for the top and some holes so it wouldn't get too humid. There are several G.G. pals that have done just that...will check back to see the other tips. Wishing you well (^_~) |

If you are wanting to establish a aquatic terrarium then plants such as Eelgrass (Sagittaria), fanworts (Cabomba), Amazon sword plants (Echinodorous), lace plants (Ctryptocoryne), and hornwort (Ceratophyllum) are suitable. Dry Savanna terrariums can support plants such as small pachypodiums, snake-plants (Sansevieria), purslanes (Portulaca), aloes and Haworthias. Plants most suitable for woodland terrariums include partridgeberry, pipsissewa (Chimaphla), spotted wintergreen (Chimaphila) and various ferns. When selecting terrarium plants it is important to consider the type of environment you want to create, the light requirements and necessary maintenance. Good Luck with your "mini rain forest"....
