Help!!! I am not a novice gardener but not a great one either...not a green thumb- more like gray. I find stuff that grows for me and stick with those friendlies. But raspberries are different...they are my Moby Dick...the Holy Grail of my quest to grow. My grandmother had raspberries growing willy-nilly around the tool shed on her farm. I cannot get mine to grow in my yard in a plot that was specially tilled for them. What to do? They look sickly and frail. I took a soil test that showed my soil was just a tad to alkaline (above ph 7 - 8.5) and lacking a lot of nitrogen, phosphorus, but scads of potash. I have no idea what that all means but there you go...those are the results. I went to Earl May and a lady that I suspect knew little more than I , sold me a bucket of stuff. When I got home, I found out it was plant food...earl mays answer to miracle grow. So is that good enough? I was wanting something for my soil...not my plants. At least, that is what I think I need. I have invested a little money in these plants by now and would appreciate any words of wisdom. Is there something better than the plant food for my soil? I want to return it and get my 15$ back and buy something better if anything would work more. Sigh....anyone with ideas?

hi from iowa!! i have almost lost mine to the drouth of 2012. changing my way of gardening. don't do soil tests any more.we lost pretty much of out garden veggs, flowers, fruit. i watched a vedio called back to eden on the computer. there is no plowing or tiller he uses compost and wood chips. i am getting a new place for my rasberries for next year. going to devide each good plant into 2,we are using cardboard in the bottoms of the new beds then compost and manure. the back to eden vedio is about an hour he is asking for no money give it a try.!!!
