Hello!! First, this is my first time posting. But I'm really glad I found this neat little website! I am very new to gardening/landscaping... but I think I've gotten the bug. My new fiance and I have moved into our first home and are now working on fixing up the yard. There was a neighbor who moved recently and told us we could dig out and replant a shrub (I think it's a shrub) into our yard if we wanted it. I have loved it since we moved in! It doesn't look like much currently, but in the spring it is COVERED by tiny pink flowers on every little wispy branch. It appears to be some kind of evergreen and it does not have leaves. Its little twiggy branches almost remind me of pine needles.

Why not just ask our old neighbor you ask? Well, he is pretty clueless too. He was never one to do any upkeep around the house and I guess his ex-wife planted it. I know for a fact he hasn't touched the thing (not even watered it) in years... but yet it seems pretty healthy. So, I'm guessing it's pretty hardy... whatever it is.

Also, we are in Zone 5. I REEEEALLY hope someone can help me figure out what this is! Once its roots are reestablished, I'm hoping I can maybe prune it a bit so it doesn't look so out of control. But I guess that will depend on what it is and if it would hurt it to do that!

Thanks you guys! Do you know why it doesn't have leaves on it?? I don't remember it ever having leaves. Just the pretty flowers in the spring.

if you haven't dug it yet maybe you could take some cutting while pruning it and root them and I can imagine how nice a walkway would look with them all in bloom.

Also! If that's a bad thing... how can I help it get healthier?

Oooohhhhh!!!! That DOES sound lovely!! Again, I am so new at this gardening stuff... but I REALLY want to learn! Can I just cut a little branch off and put it in water? Sorry if that sounds ignorant!! lol

I am pretty sure it IS a scotch broom. It think there could be more than one variety. Here is one I found online. Almost identical.
