Found two of these under the pineapple guava tree, The leaves look like holly, but are not quite as leathery as holly. It could be they are a variety of holly and just need a bit of time to get leathery. I'm not too familiar with holly other than English - which I know it's not, and a smooth leaved variety that my neighbor has. I guess it could be American holly, though the points are not as spikey. Thanks Rashell . . . I checked out both links from you post. I don't think it's the same plant as the Ilex opaca (American Holly), the spikes along the edge of the leaf are not sharp, unless this happens as the tree matures. As I look at the photos I posted again, it almost looks like 2 different plants. Wouldn't surprise me, the birds love to sit in the guava tree an eat all the flowers. They may have "deposited" 2 types. I'm going to keep an eye on them. It would be nice if they are some type of holly. |
