My mother-in-law has this flower blooming right now in FL. It came as a gift from someone but they don't know if it is a lily or something else.

It is a Hymenocallis, although I can't say for sure which species...maybe H. caribaea. Yes, Spider Lily is one of its common names (but it is not a Crinum or Swamp Lily).

Common names get swapped around a lot.

I agree with Rosemarie as to the scientific name.

Purplepassion, I went & took a look for Crinum & Swamp Lily on Google images...and I did come across a few listed as Swamp Lily that were Hymenocallis (Louisiana Swamp Lily & Swamp Spider Lily, for example). But for the most part those two common names are for flowers that look similar, having long, skinny, droopy petals...but no skirt on them like Hymenocallis. Common names are known to cause lots of trouble when identifying plants.

I believe it is a Swamp Lily-very common from Texas swamps to Florida. We had a big discussion about this quite a while back-I'm not a follower of "scientific" names-Just call it a swamp lily! They are all blooming now-I have several in my yard-and in the marshes around the rivers & bayous.
