I recently moved into a new house and I'm passionate about doing serious gardening but I have pokeweed everywhere. I would really like to pull it all up but I understand that they have giant taproots and are extremely resiliant. I dont want to use herbicide on the plants beacause I dont want to damage the soil because the current location of the pokeweed is RIGHT where I want my veggie garden. But I am also concerned about residual poisonous roots contaminating anything new I plant there. I am trying to save time and not have to dig out the entire area. If it come down to that I'll do it. |

if you kill it you will still ave to dig out around the area a little to prevet it from comming back dont have to buy new soil one thing that can prevent it is put down a thick laver of brown leaves that is what i do and anly have grass come up rarely but you can put a new layer of soil and mulch it |

Just pull it up. I love the stuff myself but not as part of the garden. Its really delicious. Fortunately it grows across the road so I can have all I want without the bother of keeping it out of my garden. I'd suggest weed eating the garden plot to the ground. Take a tiller and really turn it up, rake it out and get down and hand pick everything out of the dirt. You'll get rid of anything you don't want growing in the garden. |
