Well I switched my bird seed to black oil sunflowers and stopped using the mixed seed. I still have sparrows eating me out of house and home. Anyone got any advice on how to control the problem. They are keeping some of the other birds away from the feeders. I know they have to eat to but I am getting way to many of them? Any advice? |

All I can suggest is a teenager and a pellet gun. Sparrows are open game! The only other thing I've heard is to keep away from the seed that ground feeders eat-but there go your doves if you do that. Not much help. |

That's the same thing my neighbor said shoot the darkest one and rest will go away! I just can't do that. Maybe if I sit on the deck with the hose a spray them every time they land?

I found this searching on the web with the same problem. A little pricy but I guess one in the yard would be nice. http://www.rollerfeeder.com/ Edit: My neighbor told me tonight that at our local garden center, they had it for $35. I'm heading over there lol. |

Just was browsing through and noticed this thread....We find that if we use safflower seeds...the sparrows don't bother with it much. It is hard shell and they can't seem to open it.....so it works for us.......we use another feeder with black oil sunflower seeds and of course another with thistle seed for the finches.......Birdie |

A friend of my Mom's told her to tell me to hang some reflective strips of ribbon over the top on the feeders so it dangles down a bit I tried it and it has helped I have about half as many as I did have. And it does not bother the other birds. I may have to try the other see and see if that helps Thanks!
