Here's another one for all you brainiac ID people. This is growing under my friend's Japanese maple. I realize it's a little umm, odd-looking but it's not a joke. Is it some kind of mushroom?

It is a fungus, possibly a Stinkhorn fungus. I believe it could be Phallus impudicus (which might seem X-rated). http://waynesword.palomar.edu/phallus.htm ~remove any spaces found in the url~ |

That's a great stinkhorn! I've been seeing alot of the pink Mutinus Elegans the last few weeks. Yeah, they stink. They draw flies, which walk around on the slimy stuff which contains the spores, which is how it distributes them. The spores that is. This has been such a wet year, I've seen all kinds of fungus I haven't noticed before. It's great. |
