Hi, my Chives are finally growing great. When harvesting, how far down can I safely cut, 2"- 3" or more? Also, they are in a container and I'm wondering how hardy they are. Should I bring them indoors when the temps. hit 30 degrees fahrenheit? Thanks, Ann |

When I harvest my chives, I go close to the crown, but I never take off all the leaves. They will grow back. My chives are all outdoors. They die back during the coldest part of the winter, but they come back when it starts warming up. Some that are in more protected areas allow me to harvest a little in the winter, but I just do without mostly when the really cold weather hits. |

Thank you, Witt. It took me a few tries to get my Chives growing from seed. I guess I had cut them too soon. The seed packet said, not to cut them until they are 6" and I guess that was my mistake. Now, they are growing very fast and I'm glad to be able to cut them a lot shorter. I'll make sure to protect them for the cold temps. Again, thanks Witt, for your advice!! |
