This is an Eye Opener, It was for me, several years ago I was building a detached Garage for a Customer, one morning my helper forgot to out the wheel barrow back in the truck , the owner said we could us his, he opened his tool shed, WOW, the Mother of Organization !, he carefully removed the wheelbarrow and rolled it up to the feet of my helper, looking him straight in the eye he spoke soft and told the helper the wheelbarrow rules, Son this wheelbarrow is older than you you are to use it with respect, see I only wanted to buy one and new if I took care of it that's all I will ever need, So I am loaning you my wheel barrow, you are to wash it out dry it oil it and grease the wheel when your finished, he showed him his cleaning station on the outer edge of the shed, he also added If I see you put a hammer to my wheel barrow like you did yours yesterday, I;ll show you other uses for the hammer!, WOW I'm thinking 20 miles is not that far to go pickup my wheelbarrow, But every time I thing about It, He's Right, how many wheel barrows, shovels, hoes, hoses, rakes have we bought, used and abused "too many to count here" His Wisdom , Good Tools Will last your Life time if you take care of them , Later Guilt Trip |

My grandfather took care of his tools like that-of course, he was a young man during the depression, and living as far out in the country as he did-you couldn't just go get a replacement. I really liked the tool handles of the old tools-you just didn't get the splintery handles like some of my tools do now-even though I have sanded them and painted them. I guess I should 'oil' them, too. OH, paint the handles in bright colors, and you can find them better when you lay them down. |

Yes Paw-Paw sure did take care of his stuff. I remember he had a old paint can with some used motor oil and no telling what else mixed in it. He did not use a paint brush to apply the mixture but had a rag wrapped around a piece of wood the wood was like a 2x2 about a foot long. When he put his tools back up the metal parts would get a rub down with his mixture. |
