This was a topiary bought approx 4 years ago-we have fertilized it every spring and it did well until this year then it started having dead spots. I don't know exactly what type of shrub it is - a cedar of some sort maybe? Can it be salvaged (and keep it's topiary shape?) or should we just chop it down?

It looks like a Juniperus wichita blue, although I could be wrong. Is this the first time it has had all of this dying occur?

Yes, just during this summer. For 3-4 years it has looked very good. I have trimmed it lightly on occasion to keep it's shape (it was originally a horse, but it is planted at a small animal hospital, so I trimmed it's mane and ears to make it look more like a dog)

It looks like it could have Kabatina fungus, which is not good at all.

Thanks Ryan - I will look into that and see what treatment there might be. I know where we got the topiary, so they may be able to confirm the spp.
