I have googled info on this tree, so i have that info. The bark on the limbs are splitting and the limbs die. Tree is around 12` tall. New growth limbs are coming on, but i don't know if they will make it. Any help on known problems and treatments with this tree would be appreciated. Willing to look where recomended, will follow all suggestions. Thanks in advance. |

Will do, and will post pics Saturday evening. These trees are on the fair grounds in Gray, Tennessee. I am in Master Gardener class, and the fair grounds is one of our projects. I will have to post pics on a website i am web master on, as i can't seem to upload pics on this site |

These are 2 pics of the problem Dawn Redwood. I worked at the fair grounds again Sat. and am wondering if our problems with the trees are human happenings. There are 5 of theses trees planted within 200' of each other, 2 are doing great, 3 have some sort of problem. More posts with pics will follow. Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Hmmm there is quite a bit of new growth there, but I have to agree that it may not make it. These trees are pretty tough though, so it could pull through. It could be the soil it is in. How long has it been planted? |

Nobody is sure how long the Redwoods have been planted. I think they are a little intimadated that i am taking saving these trees so serious. I talked to a UT Extension agent about them, he suggested triple 10 around dripline in March. He thinks the dead limbs are from the drought last year, and the new growth indicates survival instinct of the tree. I also found another Dawn Redwood planted on the fair grounds, that had been forgotten about, it appears healthy. Any ideas on mulching these trees? |

Yes it is still alive, but barely. As for mulching, Mulch around the ree and try to make a basin in the middle. Don't have the mulch up too high or touching the trunk. I attached a picture of how I planted a Sequoia. Same Concept. You can barely see a little basin around the tree. Something like that. Attachments: ![]() |

Hey Ryan, I understand how to mulch the trees now, from your advice and pic, thank you. I was shown another Dawn Redwood outside the fair grounds, but on their property, it is very healthy and beautiful. I got a cutting off it and have it potted in my basement. This tree is over 50" tall. They have cut back some of the lower limbs, it doesn't seem to have hurt the tree. Its on my watch list though. More later. |
