I had a discussion w/ my bf this morning, he didn't think you can just get seeds from any flower, that some would have to be pollinated first? It may sound ignorant, but I have always assumed you could just get seeds from any flower that's reached it's potential and/or adult life. I have grown up w/ simple flowers like marigolds, where after they started wilting, that you could pull the seeds right out of what was left of the flower. I know that some plants are female & some are of course male, but to be honest I just never thought that much about it & am obviously uneducated in this area. I am intrigued now & want to learn. Can someone please tell me how I can tell which flowers I can retrieve seeds from? Is there a universal sign, or is every plant different on how to tell which sex is which? How can I tell which are pollinated? I attached 3 pictures of my hanging plants, I was hoping to get their seeds & plant them again next year? But now I am thinking that might not be possible? The first plant is a type of pansy: Viola cornuta-Johnny-jump-ups. The 2nd picture is of verbena. And last but not least, is my Calibrachoa flowering plant. Can anyone tell me if I'll be able to get seeds from any of these? And any help w/ my confusion would be so great! I apologize for my ignorance too, there is just many people on here that know a lot about gardening... plants...etc. I just feel silly sometimes, especially when I'm completely clueless on a subject. Thanks so much! -Dest- Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Oh man, still no replies... I hope someone can help my confusion! I apologize for my ignorance, I am truly embarrassed that I even had to ask this question, but I really don't know! I knew this was the best place to ask though. Many thanks to all (if any) that respond!

You might try googling the flower you want to take seed from. You will get some information as to how to propagate whether by seed, cuttings etc. Also this site might help you some. Be sure when you put this URL in your browser that you look for spaces between some of the letter. Or you could just type it in. Hope this helps some. http://theseedsite.co.uk/ |
