What if your fern was beautiful 2 days ago and Today it is completely eaten by something that appears to be black caterpillers. What is this and how do you treat them? |

Ferns are very sensitive to many insecticides. You might try dusting it with Sevin dust-the caterpillars could be from moths or butterfiles-though I can't think of any that prefer ferns right off. |

Yeah, don't put malathion on 'em. I sprayed my southern maiden hair with it this spring when something was eating it, and it killed it all the way back to the ground. It eventually came out again, but not as big as it was last year. I hope next year it will do better. |
