Hi, I'm new to the forum and so far I've been just soaking up the wisdom. Today, I really need some help with my beautiful basil. It's been growing strong indoors all summer but all of a sudden it has aphids. The leaves are sticky to the touch and you can see a residue on them. I tried misting it, but little white/beige things started flying all around it. I'm horrified because I've resisted the temptation to harvest it until now . How can I clear up the aphids in such a way that I can still eat the leaves and that the plant will continue to survive? I would so very much appreciate help with this. I have peppermint, rosemary and cilantro near the basil, so I also want to make sure they don't get aphids.

Welcome to Garden Guides. I'm so glad that you're having fun. Try Safer's Insecticidal Soap. It should get rid of the insects and after they are gone, give the plant a good "shower." Let us know how it fares. |

Hi Witt, Thank you so much for the reply. I had my mum over on Sunday- she took one look at my basil and told me to spritz it with a water and soap solution. You just can't say no to my mum, so that is what she did.. I'll have to update this post later to say for sure, but it's looking better already. Will the Safer's product work on outdoor roses? |
