I have a jade plant that one of the girls here at work gave me because it is really bad shape.... some of the leaves have fallen completely off and on one stem it has dried up wilted leaves, other stems are completely dead.... some of the leaves that have fallen off are still succelent. Can i try and root those by sticking them back in the dirt? and it has little gnatty bugs too.... I have no idea what the condition of the roots are since it was sitting on my desk when I came in today...
Help!

Wow... 41 views and no one has any ideas for this poor plant.
I am new to gardening in general and this site was recommended to me by several people so this is a little unexpected.... oh well

it is rotted, sorry but it is very likely a total loss. You can root the leaves by putting them in dry soil and leave them alone..do not water them about once a week you can mist them with a spray bottle..it can take anywere for a month to 2 months for them to root. but do not water then no matter how bad they look.

Sorry I have been very sick and not checking in very much.

Thats ok. I hope that you are feeling better.
I hate that it is a loss but I will try and root the leaves. I will let you know what happens.

Thanks!

This part doesn't look like a total loss to me. What I would do is take it out of the pot and dump all the soil into the garbage. I would rinse the plants roots well of all the soil and scrub the pot with some disinfectant just in case there is root rot fungus there. Then I would repot it with fresh potting soil that has good drainage. I would water it well and let it drain off completely. Put the plant in a bright spot, but not where the sun will actually stream in on it. Then I wouldn't touch it again for a few weeks. That's just what I would try. Keep us apprised as to how it fairs.
Oh, and welcome to Garden Guides!

NO NO NO!!!! do not rinse the roots!! you will cause the plant to rot! Just repot that one in a new pot of its own and leave it for about a week and then water it. Your advice witt is wrong for jades dear, i am sorry. You do not water it right after repotting, you need to wait a week for the roots to establish, then you water it mildly and then once a week there after. Winter is the prime growing season for jades. Also they need nice sunlight if possible, several hours of mornig sun would be great..but not afternoon sun it is to harsh for now.
Jades are not like other plants they require certain care.

The one that is the loss is the other one that is the one I thought she was asking about.
