Help! We just noticed a huge hornets nest hanging on a limb about 20 ft up in a maple tree. It's right over the area where the kids play.It must have been there quite a while, because it's a big one....Do we wait until winter to get it down? Yesterday was my Grandson's 4th Birthday , we told the kids at the party not to throw anything up at the nest.We were afraid they'd think it was a pinata...HEHEHE....I'm a sick Grandma, huh?

If the wasps/hornets haven't bothered anyone by now, I would leave the nest alone. After a couple of hard freezes, they will be out of commission. They wont bother people if the nest doesn't feel threatened or you start swatting them. If you feel they are a threat, wait till dusk when all parties are inside and then spray. Safer products makes a human safe spray made with mint oil (neurotoxin for bees). Ron www.gardening-for-wildlife.com |
