Care
As long as it is warm, okra will grow. You can help by weeding in the area. However, you don't even need to water it very often. If you notice the soil is very dry, then water it. Otherwise, leave it as is. One danger that is common among okra plants is pests. You need to check regularly for cabbage worms and aphids, especially on the undersides of the leaves. As soon as a pod grows to about 2 inches, pick it and enjoy! Older pods should be picked regularly. They are taking energy away that could go to producing new pods.

The above info. is so true! I haven't watered mine for a week (watered it yesterday)it still grows nice.

I've noticed a lot of red ants in my veggie planter but none of the other pest, yikes! Have to check today.

Only 5 plants grew but after looking at the image again... looks like 4

Just read the original post again. Could be the black aphids. Some okra look about two inches, I can pick 'em now!

Black ants like to get in okra. Sprinkle some sevin dust around the base of the plant. Wash em off with the water hose (sprinkle dust after washing). What kind of okra did you plant?

I have planted that before-they are good. Recently I have been planting Clemson Spineless. Cut them around 4" long, not tough to cut up at all, not very fiborous, and very good flavor.

Just picked a bunch of okra! ants are back but only one okra was destroyed. I have one to use for seeds (brown one in pic), can hear the seeds when I shake the okra! Will upload an image when I open it up.

Have a couple new flowers and some more okra growing on the plant but they are still too small to pick.

Only one plant survived but it's more than enough for us.
