Kiwi sounds great. Yes I did read a fair amount about the need to plant different tree types in order to cross pollinate, and that even with self fruiting trees, planting a second varity take actually increase the fruit production. For the present, I am going to cut back my options to the two fruit types I like the most, apple and pears. Over time ( next 3 -5 years) I may add the others in progressively, rather plant plant too many varities all at once. Kind of get my feet wet and my thumb green first. Dwarf or semi-dwarf are my only option because of the space thing. |

Rachel, Have cut back on the types I am going to start with, as a friend pointed out, get your feet wet frist, with trees that grow around here and can stand up to our nutty micro climate. So I am going with apples and pears, two of each for polination purposes. I may add a citrus indoors..Key lime would do nicely, I like it's taste over the so called mexican lime. The meyer lemon is tempting... Oh well..at some point Iwill actually decide. For now most of my time is used up getting my jungle cleared..and riding myself of vining pest that bear no fruit, but plenty of itching. Thaks for the sugestions though, always a pleasure to meet people that are inspired. |
