transplant a Datura plantlet(that is several months old) to a pot from the ground? This little puppy is not doing well and thought I may try a pot but wondering if it is too late in the season. I'm in zone 9.

Since your growing season won't end for awhile yet, it wouldn' hurt to try. Do yours come back for you there in LA?

Hi yardgranny,
Unfortunately, they do not. I can't get the purple or gold daturas for some reason to grow in my garden. I'm going to dig that little plantlet up then and pot it. Will let you know the progress, if any.

Uh, oh. If they won't survive the winter for you, pink, then I guess they won't survive the winter for me! Dang it. I have three that are just sitting there. I so wanted them to bloom.

Pink, I have had some survive the winter planted on the south side of my house, pretty close to it. Then again, one year I had NO volunteers, and the parent plant didn't come back. Kind of depends on how cold the winter is. I'd Plant it in the ground-our first frost date isn't until the end of November. I did have ONE come up this year, and though I have been trimming most of the dead flowers, I do have 2-3 pods I am letting ripen for seeds. I can send you some for next year when they are ready.

We live in a totally different area, but I tried to leave mine in the ground last season-no success. I will return to the over-wintering method which includes spraying with an organic insecticidal soap every month after I water. ~Andrea

witt, well, I may have mis-construed (ph) what I originally said. My purple and gold Dats really never had the opporunity to re-seed or come back as they never made it past plantlet stage. LOL

Hi carolyn,
I do have one Datura, alba metal, that I had from last year and bloomed again this year but can't for the life of me, grow the others. Drats

Hi Andrea,
Sounds 'tried and true' for you. So yours are potted and overwintered?

Here is today's pic of the plantlet that I potted up a few weeks ago. We'll see what she brings. Took a 'macro' shot so it appears larger than it actually is.
