I have a water feature in my flower garden. In the past I have used a little bleach to keep the water clear and the alge from growing. Since I have noticed how much the birds like the water fall I have stopped using bleach. Now my water is dark green. How much bleach can I put in the water and still be safe for the birds? Any other ideas? |

I googled for info on your problem and from this forum with some good info. Other members may have some other ideas you could try. Seems like once you get your birdbath good and clean a small piece of copper pipe helps keep the algea at bay. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/accout/ms g080949536364.html |

Yes, copper pipe deters algae growth, it has been used since the time of the Romans. When using bleach, I use it at dusk to do a shock or better cleaning. By morning, the chlorine has oxidized out. For a birdbath, 1 cap full is enough. Ron www.gardening-for-wildlife.com |
