Black Aphids are completely covering all of our nasturtium plants. Do you know why this happens? The beautiful plants look so gross covered in black bugs, that we are going to yank out and destroy them. Any ideas much appreciated! Vancouver BC Canada |

Mix dish soap in a spray bottle and spray the aphids. You might have to treat a couple of times, but it will save the plants. I had to do this with my roses until I started moving garden spiders. My spiders always come to the house to lay eggs near the outside lights, so in the spring there are hundreds of them that hatch. I take a stick and move the spiders to the plants which are prone to aphids. So now I don't have to spray anymore. So if you don't spray for spiders, you could move one or treat with soap, either works well. Lady bugs are great, but they often move on and the aphids come back. I bought them two springs in a row and they moved on, even though I made them houses. |
