Get thee to thy nearest library! "Stalking the Wild Asparagus" by Euell Gibbons has recipes for jelly and a pioneer lemonade using the berries of these plants...but you really have to get to them before the hard rains of fall hit.

Be warned, these will spread by root suckers pretty aggressively at times. Got a couple at the wood's edge here that behave, but I'm thinking it's the big black walnut trees keeping them in line.

Those are Staghorn Sumac. They grow all over here. Including right near the foundation of my house and on 3 sides and they refuse to die! lol I don't mind them out back, but they grow really fast and send suckers out everywhere. They aren't poison sumac so don't worry about that. If you prune them make sure you pick up the least little particle of leaf because they root very well.
I'm glad it was mentioned about the lemonade, When I was in high school backpack club our teacher told us that it could be made from the red part. They do get fuzzy so I wasn't sure when to harvest them for it. We just chewed on a -I'm not sure whether to call them berries or seeds - but a few red fuzzy pieces off the horns.
I think they're really pretty, too, and the leaves change color in fall here.
