Wow, I just finished reading "Tales As Tall As a Sunflower" by Stephen Butterman. I'm no longer laughing but still smiling I had no idea that simple gardening could provide such story material. Has anybody else read this? What did you think? |

Yep, you all couldn't go wrong reading this--I probably could say more about it, but the humor is the main thing. Anyway, where to get it: I got it from the publisher's (Bellissima Publishing) website, but a friend of mine just ordered one from amazon. Let me know what you think! |

Hey greenbeans! Nice suggestion--I read this just a few days ago (found it at amazon), and it was one of the funniest books I've ever read, and absolutely the funniest gardening book. Except its not only about gardening, but visitors to the garden (kids, creatures, a girlfiend, a drinking buddy) and about viewing the culture from the earthy gardeners' hilarious perspective--I second the recommendation! Meanwhile, does anyone want to recommend other "light" (non-factual) reading fare to enjoy by the garden? |

I'd like to share another funny, if entirely outrageous, series with you avid readers. This one has nothing to do with gardening, though. Janet Evanovich's 'Stephanie Plum' series keeps me laughing out loud. Although each book in the series is a 'stand-alone', I'd recommend reading them in order. The first in the series is 'One for the Money'. Each title contains a number, so you'll know where it fits in the series. Evanovich's latest is number 15. I haven't read it yet. |

I'll have to check that one out. I picked up a copy of "Two Acre Eden" by Gene Logsdon years ago at a sale; laughed my aft off! His 2 acres were in a suburb in a smallish town and he discussed some of the things you should do with your garden by regaling you with tales of what happened when he didn't. Some tales of the wildlife he encountered(the story of the shrew was funniest for his wife's commentary), ideas that didn't pan out and others that did, and of course relations with family and friends and neighbors. |

Talking about books and gardening, I was on another gardening website, and they recommended another book, you gardeners might like, it's called " The $64 Tomato.", but they did not say who the author was. Guess I could google it and find out who it is by. Will do that later. I guess I have some books to stock up on for the winter. Tammy |
