Who's planting a Fall Garden ?. I'm thinking now is the time in Zone 9 to get the soil ready. If your adding fresh manure, it needs about two to three months to work with the other soil, my year old horse poo will be mixed with my existing soil (which ant bad). the reason I'm starting now is I will pull a soil sample for testing. that will give me time to add whatever I have to the soil mix in time for it to work, Warning, Lettuce get ready for the Fork, Guilt Trip |

Guilttrip, what does a person usually plant in the fall garden? Would garlic and asparagus be among those? I have always wanted to plant some of those. just never really knew how to go about growing a winter veggie garden. |

My Seed planting next weekend for my fall transplants goes as follows; * Bell Peppers * Cabbage * Onions, Garnix (sweet) * Winter Squash * Tomatoes, (Early Girl) * Carrots * Broccoli * Cucumbers * Egg Plant * Pumpkin My direct planting around the last of August or first week September * Sugar Snap Peas * Potatoes, (white & reds) * Spinach * Pole Beans (testing my new arbor) * Sweet Corn * Lettuce, Grand Rapids, (it's the best, I love it). * Lettuce, Romain(direct planting in my new secret modified container), "I Will post Pictures of my new home made self watering machine soon" * Collards Later Guilt Trip |

Usually, by the time fall comes around I've had it with gardening(lol). My bell peppers and cucumbers are still producing prolifically, and my eggplant have re-sprouted where I cut them back, so no need to re-plant there! I am in the process of re-planting squash from seed now. Lousy year for those this year. I have a couple of volunteer tomatoes coming up-I will baby them and see if I can have some fall tomatoes. IF I were planting for fall, I would plant snap beans around 8/15-8/25. Same with potatoes. I will plant broccoli plants sometime in early October. Unless we have several days of hard freeze, they'll make it all winter. I will plant radish sometime in early October also. By mid November, I put my garden to bed, mostly. Except for the broccoli! |

You can plant the garlic both in the spring and in the fall. My husband plants it in the spring March or Aprilish. Then by the time mid August comes around it is ready to pull up. If you plant it in the fall you will have to wait til later spring of the following year before it is ready to harvest. |

We have planted some radishes this year and they did not do well at all. Boy was my husband really looking forward to them. The result was not even a baby radish. The seeds were good so that was not the problem. We will end up doing a small fall garden as well. Digging in the dirt is my life, for me manicures would be a total waste though on other people they it does look nice. |
