I have two bittersweet vines that are mature and bloom out with some flowers in spring, but only produce a few or hardly any berries. I know you need a male and female plant---I have two---but both will only have a handful of berries. Seems to me that I should have masses of berries by now---the vines are huge and been growing for years. Anyway, does anyone know anything about bittersweet vine ? I would appreciate any feedback or advice and thank you ! mitzi

Sorry Mitzi, I'm not fimiliar with the vine. Have you tried feeding it? Can you eat these berries?

No, I haven't been feeding it, so I'll see if that helps any and thanks, Harley.
No, you can't eat them, just birds do. I'm growing them for food for the birds, and also, for decorative purposes in the fall---the fruits are orange-yellow and the capsules split to reveal pulpy, red to orange seeds. The colors are great for autumn wreaths and dried flower arrangements. mitzi

Ok my new found thing is epsom salts I got it the site from wolfwalker, its in addition to a fertilizer/food/. The magnesium sulphate helps the nitrogen and other nutrients work better. I have soil that is nutrient deprived.
http://www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/garden_benefits.ht m I keep a bag in or two in the garden shed. Ive sprinkled it directly to the ground. Then water and fertilize. Its says Sage hates it I dont go anywhere near my sage with it.
There is a place with directions to make it up for a sprayer or watering. Since using the salts and a bit of miracle grow until the horse manure came has really caused my deprived plants to turn the green they are supposed to be. And helped bring on blossoms for fruit to come.
I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your advice and I will try that. I'm so glad you told me about the sage not liking the epsoms salts because I have a huge gray sage plant close by one of the bittersweet vine bushes ! mitzi
