I planted basil in this spot. Another plant grew in the place of one of the basil seeds. I think it's oregano. As you can see, I planted three seeds in the same spot, and two of them were basil.

I think the mystery plant is oregano, but now that my oregano is starting to come up, I'm not so sure. I took a picture of the mystery plant, it's stem, and its leaves. The last picture is one of the oregano plants that's (finally) coming up. What do you guys think?

It tastes Italian, and looks like a mint, which makes me think oregano, but it doesn't look like the oregano I planted.

Look up spicy globe basil and see if that's it.

That actually makes more sense, now that I see the spicy globe basil. It also makes more sense that a spicy globe basil might get mixed in the seed packet from the store than an oregano seed. Thank you for solving the mystery!

bussete, Mints and oregano and lemon verbena all belong to the mint family. THEY ARE SO INVASIVE THEY WILL SMOTHER ALL OTHER HERBS. Keep them in SEPERATE POTS. Far away from your other herbs so any seeds they form will not be blown into your other herb plots. Can't stress this enough. Large leaft basils like to be crowded, plant in very closely packed bunches. Other basils need to be spaced normally.
Yank the mints, oreganos lemon verbena out of your herb garden, and make sure you get all the roots out too. Sage can also be invasive, same applies. Big old tubs kept well away from the other herbs is best place to grow the invasives.
Good luck getting them all out.. hard to do. damselfly
