Here's my hens and chicks with some cockscombs. I didn't even realize the chicken theme until I just typed that! I should dig out some of my old black and white ceramic cow eggs I painted. And they're in the top of a wok I bought cheap at a yardsale. I removed the handle which was just screwed on for a drainage hole. There's fish gravel on top of the soil. The other plant is a lobelia just for more color. I sat it on a big flower pot that I put a rock in for weight.

The stack is made from 5 - 5 inch clay pots from Home Depot. I sprayed the inside twice with Rustoleum just so they wouldn't be as porous. That's purely experimental. I used an old arrow for the stick down the middle. Yup! A new use for retired weaponry. Point removed, of course!
When I stacked them I added half the dirt and then stuck the arrow through the hole and situated it before I added the impatien and more soil. I did that all the way up. The fletch (feathered) end is in the ground.

I found 5 black square pots on my back porch and I think an arrow will fit through them, too. I've had these old arrows for over 10 years now and they're the perfect diameter for those pots. Nice height, too.

I'm very pleased with the results of both projects!

Cute idea you have there with the clay pots. I would like ot try and build something unusual like that for my yard. Arrows I think are alot stronger than a dowel good idea. Have you tried to build a man out of pots yet. ALways wanted to give that a try. Thanks for sharing. Tammy

Just wondering...why would you keep old arrows for 10 years? (lol)

Love the way the terra-cotta planters are staggered. Very nice, way to go!

Why would I keep them for 10 years? You sound like my husband!! haha I'm a packrat. Plain and simple. I never know when something would come in handy. I was going to use dowels, but when I spotted them I thought I'd try it. They won't rot and they're strong. One thing I really like about this is they take up no space at all.
I've seen the pot men, but I haven't tried making one yet. Somewhere in my barn I have a ceramic mold for little flower pots. It would be cute to make miniatures.

Thanks for all the ideas and comments!
