My straight neck squash is dying on the vine. I have photos. I had this problem last year. I tried watering once a day in the heat. No night watering. What am I doing wrong. Ha-v-v Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Check carefully for cucumber beetles. They attack the plant at the base and infect it with a disease that kills the plant rapidly. I'm not certain that this is your problem, but it very well might be. |

Also look at the base of the plant for holes with what looks like yellow saw dust. Squash vine borers are killing off my plants. |

Looking at your pics, it doesn't appear that you have squash vine borers, YET. In the humid south, it is almost a given that you will get them. It looks like your vines are still young. It is not unusual to lose a lot of blooms and young fruit in the beginning. Water DEEPLY-long, instead on once a day (unless you're having 100 degree days like we are!). Sprinkle sevin dust lightly on the base of your plant, avoid the blooms as much as possible. Get some epsom salts, read the mixture on the bag/box, and fertilize with that as recommended. I have problems with squash, too. This time of year in the south is too "buggy"! |
