I am trying to get my organic vegetable garden started. I've decided to use the raised garden method since our soil is practically like trying to dig concrete. I was going to use wood to build them, but I was reminded it's not a good idea since we have bad termite problems in Phoenix, and treating the wood kind of eliminates the whole organic thing. I've been looking into vinyl raised beds, but since I need four 4x8 beds at least 12" high (is that deep enough to grow everything?) it's going to cost over $1000. My father is a mason and has a ton of red brick that he could use to build me my beds, but I was wondering if that too would ruin the whole organic thing since mortar would have to be used to build it? Any help would be great, I'd like to try and get started on winter crops soon, or am I to late that for that? ![]() One more thing, does anything think if brick is used it would insulate our summer heat and kill everything inside the bed or would those be large enough to be okay? thanks again |
