Some one brought up the question in another thread about why I plant my Jades in such shallow pots. Well these pots really are not all that shallow..they are anywere from 3-5 inches high. I know they are not as deep as most see Jades in but these Jades are planted in these pots to keep them small. The shallower the pot the smaller the root system...the less growth. They will branch out nice and grow new leaves were I have trimmed them but I want them to stay small in higth. I will actually be putting them in much shallower pots then that in the future when I learn how to bonsai train them. I have some very large Jade cuttings on the way to me now that I will show pics of when they get here and take you through the process of rooting them and watching them grow into nice large plants. Some of the cuttings will be near 2 feet tall and will go in large pots once ready. RR |

This is my attempt to create a bonsai type plant with a Jade plant. I think I need to do some more trimming. Attachments: ![]() |

Hey Sarah, Sorry took me so long to get to this I didnt see it till now. I think you have a really nice Jade. If it were mine I would take off the lower small branches and let the top fluff out..but it really depends on what kind of bonsai style you want..I dont know a lot about bonsais...but I love Jades and you have a very healthy looking plant. Play with it and see what you like, it doesnt have to be any certain way....just enjoy it and try new things with it....its fun to be creative and if you mess up dont worry thats the great thing about Jades they are forgiving and come back fuller then ever ![]() One thing I will note is that your Jade need more light..the leaf spacing is to far apart and it is growing a little spindly..get it more bright light and it will tighten up...I think I would cut back the branches that are spindly also so that when t comes back it will be fuller and tight leafed. How often and how much ar you watering it? I was noticing the downward pattern of the leaves also. RR |

I don't mean to interrupt, but I just had to throw this in. Yesterday while I was waiting for Hubby's prescription at CVS, I saw that they had bags of rocks on sale for a dollar. Oh, how I wanted to get a few, but I just couldn't justify that to my man! SJ, they looked just like the rocks around your jade. Maybe when we go back, I'll get at least one dang bag! |

Witt, I bought those rocks a while back at our dollar store! RR, I must admit that I haven't been taking the best of care with my Jade. When the weather gets warm here in NY, I head for the great outdoors and my houseplants get the hit or miss treatment for a while. I did however, make several cuttings from an older jade which was on its way out. They are doing great on my back porch which gets Southern exposure. I'll have to take some photos soon. Thanks for your input. |

These are the starts I did from my old Jade plant that was dying. I'm so glad I was able to save some of it. It died from being too close to an air purifier. The purifier was blowing cool air on the plant, and I didn't realize it until it was too late. Attachments: ![]() |
