I have mixed several types of soil mixes for my containers, raised beds and ground planting type gardening, so given the test I'm going to try one more, though my horse poo/oak leaves and chips composted for a year under those old trees ant bad. So here is my new mix this year for my raised beds, containers and tub rings. 40% composted Horse Poo, 30% Peat and 30% Vermiculite, given this is close to Mel's(Square Foot Garden Guy's Mix), he used compost, I really got to try my horse poo blend it's looks goooood. Oh before ya ask Whats a tub ring, (old dunking game tanks from rental store cut into 14" deep rings)

I had to really think of this one GuiltTrip. Very nice by the way. You always seem to have it together, love it!
I use grass clippings, water maple leaves, regular ol dirt, fish emulsion and every left over veggie, egg shells, banana peels, and leftover coffee. I have no clue to the ratio, I just dump it in and turn it over all thru the season and use it the following year. Yours sounds so much easier.

Well, GT, I don't grow NEAR as much as you in those containers-which by the way, is the bottom cut out of them? Soil mix in containers- Using a tub approximately the size of 1/2 of a 55 gal. drum, I use 1 large (20-30lb??)miracle grow yard/planting mix, and the rest half and half bagged top soil and compost mix ( I don't have a compost pile FOR SHAME!)) I mix in a "good pour" of regular fertilizer-888 or 13, and plant. And, I must add, Maggie is going to be one heck of a gardener! I can just see the TV show now, 'MAGGIE, THE GARDENER GIRL!!'

Those tubs you see are from a dunking tank, I cut them off to make three planters, only one has a bottom and it has a lot of holes, Yes Maggie loves the Garden but Jake can plant and pick , he just doesn't eat veggies?. Later Guilt Trip
