What amazing eye candy! lovely, lovely containers all! Tammy67, I have a question for you. Alaska has many growing zones depending on wind shelter, warming effects of the sea etc. Would much appreciate knowing your zone.. There is a thread where you can check on a map to see what yours is. Marigold:Your last posted photo... Diascia is one of my favorite flowers too. The colors are so lush! Posting a fav color from a few years back, can't find it anymore. Hanging Gardens in Pheonix: Forgot to tell you something important about snow peas. They need a trellis to grow on. I use black plastic mesh.. it's almost invisible and does a great job. You will have to wind the first fronds into the mesh.. after that they twine on their own. Will try to post a photo I took at the beginning of the summer last year. The snow peas grew right up and over the top of the trellis, so thick, I had to part the leaves to find the peas. Bumper crop. They are so delish they rarely make it into the house.. Eat them right off the vine! One of my favorite combinations is: Dwarf fuschia Dahlias with yellow hearts, combined with annual yellow Lissimachia with red hearts. The petals of one, echo the heart of the other.. too yummy! I would love it if you would all post your zone numbers. Sometimes among the posted photos, you see some flower you would like to grow.. Be nice to know if it's mission impossible! Ex: I would love to grow butterfly bush, but not possible in my zone 3b. Gimpy2 Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Gimpy2 To ansewer your question, I went back to that email reply I got and the lady looked it up and wrote that Alaska has 3zones. She got the info out of sunset gardening book- that there are 3 sunset climates, Anchorage sets in A2,Anchorage has 3 microclimates( because of wind, moderation of climate by the water, exposure to sunlight). Hope this ansewers your question. Tammy |

Here are some recently completed containers. The two in the first photo were done for clients, the last two photos are mine. I am still experiencing problems with my editing software and unable to rotate images....so please excuse that and I hope your necks don't ache after cranking them.~Andrea (Oh, I am in zone 8) Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

garden98011. Hello! I'll give you a hand with your sideways photos. God Bless Adobe Photoshop.. so easy to adjust photos with that software. Now that they are vertical, would you please be good enough to identify the plants in them please? I recognize the BONFIRE BEGONIAS in your second shot, as I just discovered them this year and have some too. I see some geranium leaves in the first pot, but I don't recognize much else. A lot of it looks tropical. Thank you for giving your zone. You have exquisite taste ma'am. Are you a professional florist? Love your pots! wherever did you find such beauties? Also like the lapis-lazuli tiles on the wall in the first shot. Gimpy2 Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Gimpy2, I love your albums. I checked them all out when I noticed your growing zone. As I too don't exactly have tropical weather, it is always nice to see what other cold climate gardeners have, especially since I am still putting in new beds and hopefully improving existing ones. Can I pick your brain on things? What gorgeous containers everyone has!! Thanks for sharing all! Marigold, what is in your wooden planter? |

Hi all. What are you growing in containers. everything. I have to. We live at the bottom of two hill's that face us. It's england, you know. The land of rain hail, sun and shower's all in the same day, and sometimes in the same hour. My greenhouse flood's and I put a pump in and now I just let the toms / cucks and anything else draw what they want. I dont even use the pump....I could grow rice in there, and not even in pot's as the toms and stuff are in. It's not as bad outside the geenhouse, but I cannot put anything in the ground, as it would rot off. I learned that after I lost all my chrysanths and dahlias.. but here I have put in a few pics of the latest in flower... bob...................... Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE: Gimpy2, I love your albums. I checked them all out when I noticed your growing zone. As I too don't exactly have tropical weather, it is always nice to see what other cold climate gardeners have. Confusing I know.. but unavoidable. gimpy2 is now damselfly. Had to register cuz screw up management barred me from using my password.. had to reregister to get back in here.. A word of protest to the management might help. Yup, we can grow a lot of good stuff even in zone 3b. Montreal which is only 120 miles south east of here, have 4b. My daughter can grow pear and cherry trees but I can't. Well shielded in the angle between pool and deck, with a good 8 inches of mulch, I can get away with growing stuff that is zoned 5.. Have a Kiwi vine planted there that I am very proud of..It grows and winds all along the pool-side rail.. almost 1/4 way around now and still reaching to cover more. posting photo. damselfly (really Gimpy2) Attachments: ![]() |
