Okay, I have to ask. Why are you growing oats? It can't be for oatmeal in such a small quantity or is it? You have packed a ton in a small area! Good for you!

I have pansies, lantana, petunias, carrion plant, shamrocks, geraniums, salvia, sweet potato vine, clematis that I broke and am trying to reroot, lobelia, snapdragons, marigolds. I've got a few flats I still need to plant in pots or in the yard.

i was in edmonton 5 years ago and bought a prairie grass mix to bring some of the west back home (i was born there)
just have a potful, but had a cat that loved to graze on it. i just keep a few seeds each year to plant and the rest goes to the birds. (that and the fact that people think it's weird to grow oats...lol)

Carrots, mint, spaghetti squash, petunias, onions, marigolds, climbing lima beans, geraniums to name a few. (interplanted the onions and mint with the spaghetti squash to control bugs. Did the marigolds with the lima beans for the same reason.)

Good luck on the container garden that you have. Sounds amazing!

I was going to have some regrading work done on my lawn this year and also have some better garden soil brought in. He promised me it would be done by planting time but finally I realized that the plants wouldn't wait so I started planting in a dozen tubs that are 7 and 10 gallons. I then went out and bought a dozen 3 gal. pails. Not seeing an end to the need I decided to count my seedlings, none of which I was willing to let die and found that I needed 44 more planters! I didn't find anything cheap enough so I decided to make planting bags out of landscape fabric and my serger (sort of like a sewing machine). I've got 14 made so far and am working on the rest. If you want to see how I did it, I made a couple of videos for Youtube... see How To Make a Planting bag step 1 and step 2.
I finally called the lawn guy and said wait until fall, my garden can't wait. Now I have to decide whether my plants would be better off in the containers or in the ground. Let me know what you think.
I have:
several varieties of tomatoes including cherry and several types for canning
bush pickles
zucchini
leeks
onions
green and colored bell peppers
cayenne peppers

I've also got several planters of flowers, petunias, coleus, vinca, dusty miller, lobelia, snapdragon, spikes, gerber daisy, marigold.

Two of the planters are the hanging variety with coco mat liners. I cut holes in the bottom of these and shoved tomato seedlings up there (I said I wasn't willing to let any die!) They are DOING GREAT... so far. I hope there's enough dirt in the planters for everything.

So that's what I'm putting in my containers

Michigan, I loved your ideas. Who would have thought you can plant in bags. I am amazed at how many things you can grow in a container. I have never tried container gardening. Other than annuals, and I have 3 pots filled with sedum. I have a few varieties for thier leaves of different geraniums, petunias, shasta daisy, zinnias. Too name a few. I do guess, it would be easier less weeds.
