Hi All, Last summer we moved to 3.4 acres. Mostly weedy and some compacted, weedy, crappy lawn. I'm looking for resources for ideas - links, photos, forums to help me plan what to do with all this space. We have some things done, see photos. All ideas welcome! first is a perennial bed around our deck -next is our raised veggie garden, and a kind of "lasagna" bed in the back in which I've planed pumpkin and zucchini (cardboard to choke out weeds, then straw on top, then little islands of soil/compost.) Will top this all with manure and let it compost over winter. Till it under in spring and hopefully have a great veggie plot -flower bed around our shed that started just as a weeding project -square raised bed -perennial bed a second time. Finally figured out how to add pics, not going to bother trying to delete them. Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks like you have a good handle on things. Great pictures. Better Homes and Gardens has a good planning tool, also go to budget gardener. Also feel free to go to our members photo albums. We have some really awesome gardeners here. |

I agree with the above posts what you have done looks nice, and if you check out other peoples pics you will find some really nice ideas. For a few suggestions on what you have already done, I might put some potted plants on the edge of the deck, and possibly a weeping tree in the raised bed will give it a little demention. Or some taller plants or a large rock or 2. I decided to do a rock garden this year. It started looking like a firepit. After a few posts and a few ideas from my friends here I added a few more rocks (still has that firepit look) but some sides are higher than others and its not so round now. I piled the dirt and once the plants got in it changed a little. If it doesn't suit me next year (after things grow a little) I"m tearing it out and starting over. |
