Hiya everyone, We live in a small town at the base of Grand Mesa; the largest flat top mesa on planet Earth. We live out in the country, but still in the mountains. The natural terrain is unlike any other place on earth with enormous Sage, Cedars, and Pine in zone 6. We love wildlife and birds of all kinds. My Avatar is a hummer in the pine tree on my deck in Evergreen CO in 2005. WoW, that seems like a long time ago now. It is one of my faves. Mid to late spring when the hummingbirds arrive, they perch in the trees, puff and fluff up their feathers, and dance back and forth trying to attract a mate. I've made new hummer friends here in Cedaredge and several are pregnant! Would love to see a nest w/egg so I'm on the lookout and hope to see baby hummers soon! I'm in the process of digging out cheatgrass for the second year in a row and preparing the soil for an herb garden. Last year I researched it intensely and just happened to go online to see if any progress had been made by anyone and noticed someone on Garden Guides with the same problem, so I joined, posted, and hope to make some gardening buddies. Cheers, ~Obla |

Love your screen name! That sounds like beautiful country. We drove a midroute through Colorado and the differences along the way were amazing. There's a lot of hummingbird lovers here so you'll fit right in. Wander around and hopefully you'll find some remedies for your problems areas, too. |

You must post photos of your part of the US. And do put up more hummer feeders. Don't think I have ever noticed a pregnant hummer. What a joy to watch. Welcome, Linda B from SC |

Hi. I am also on the Western Slope of Colorado, Grand Junction to be exact and I have to agree it is lovely country. I am not much of a desert person so would like to be closer to the Mesa but I get up there every chance I get during the summer. However, for being desert at the base of the mountains I get the best of both worlds.
