I was a happy camper at the dinner table last night. Picked enough squash for dinner plus one tomato. The first harvest is always such a good feeling isn't it! Fried chicken made it all just that much better. Mmmmm....

I'm picking tomatoes and cucumbers steadily now. They are sooo good! Eggplant should be ready by the weekend! No squash yet, they're still tiny (if they survive!) Oh, and bell peppers-I'm picking lots of bell peppers!

Early in the summer, my eggplant were so loaded down with fruit, that I lost several branches off the plant. I cut it back during all the heat/drought we had a few weeks ago, and BABY, it came back!

Congratulations CP! Last year I sliced larger zucchini in half length-wise and scraped/cut out the flesh (hard to do!)to make "boats". I stir-fried the guts with yellow squash, onion, mushroom, spices and then mixed in some of Sargento's basil/sun dried tomato shredded cheese. Covered them with foil and baked in the oven until the boats were tender, then uncovered to brown them a little. Man, that was good! I've stuffed them with different things, pretty much whatever I have on hand at the time, and they are always tasty.

Are your cucumbers getting enough water? I usually have the same problem with cukes, but this year we had a lot of good rains and the cucumbers took off like mad. Prettiest cucumbers we've ever grown so I think lack of an even supply of water was the problem in the past.
