Can anyone tell me how you go about starting a clematis? I have one and it is beautiful. I would like to start another but do not know how. I saved some of the little seeds from last year and put them into peat pellets but haven't seen anything happening yet. Does anyone know if you start them from seeds or from cuttings? I'd sure appreciate some suggestions here. Thank you.

I'd like to know that myself. I know that you can start them from seed because my mom has done it, but she has a super greenthumb. I tried it and got nothing.

Thanks WITT, I'll try planting a few more seeds. Also last night I was searching and found, can't remember where though, that you can grow them from cuttings so I'm going to try that too.

Any special tricks to that or just put them in a pot of soil?

New Clematis plants can be started like you do Hygrangeas. By bringing a piece down to the ground and putting a rock on it. They do break easily though and I have not tried this method.

I would think you could take cuttings and start them. They should put off roots anywhere there is a nodule on the stem. Maybe even start they in water.
