Hi, I have the original "black" thumb. Plants don't do to well with me. Help.
I am looking for a flowering plant which can take full sun. I did find one about two years ago that I loved. I think I saw it on Oprah when Jamie made Detroit's apartment balconies come to life. I have searched and found the segment however it only showed the finished product.

The flower would be used in window boxes which get full sun. The flowers I saw were red and were quite hearty.
Any ideas?

Try some Euphorbia Diamond Frost, vinca (periwinkle),some salvia for a good heat and sun tolerant collection. It can all run a tad on the dry side too!

Could it have been petunias? I have a perennial petunia, hot pink, that grows in my hard, clay soil, so they'd probably be great for window boxes without having a lot of attention.

For window boxes, get plants that trail like

Trailing Petunias
Verbana
Sweet potata vine

You can mix these with short upright plants for interesting textures.

Trailing plants fall over the box and grow downwards and look very pretty!

I agree with the periwinkles and Salvia suggestion. They are very pretty annuals that do very well in full sun. They go great in a window box. They come in quite a few colors too.
